The physiochemical changes occuring in interactions of thermally evaporated magnesium atoms with chemically synthesized polypyrrole films were analyzed using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The spectrum analysis revealed that the magnesium stoms reacted with the dopant to form a salt. The increase in the intrinsic oxidation state of the films was due to undoping process. It was observed that the surface oxygen concentration increased with Mg coverage due to diffusion of bulk adsorbed oxygen to the surface. Results indicated that compounds such as magnesium-dopant salts, magnesium oxides, and magnesium cluster were formed on the interfacial layer.
