Using Leximancer, a text-analytics application, we conducted a content analysis of 12 years of digital articles published in the Journal of Communication (2000-2011) to semantically map the themes and concepts. The results, based on an analysis of 514 research articles, show that the journal has evolved from a focus on the TV medium to newer media such as online platforms and social network analysis. The research published in the JOC in the past 12 years shares a common media theme, and each period made unique contributions to the journal. © 2012 Springer-Verlag.
