ScholarBank@NUS Repository.||Abstract:||A special issue of the American Scientific Publishers, US, published a number of papers that discussed applications of nanotechnology in the existing and emerging information storage technologies. The special issue focused on publishing those papers that provided information about a range of data storage technologies. The papers have been divided into four categories, such as magnetic, optical, solid-state, and emerging technologies. Each of the papers also include few reviews and research articles. The first group of the special issue contains papers, which are related to magnetic data storage, including hard disk drives (HDD). The HDD is an integration of a number of key technologies, including head, media, head-disk, interface, servo, and channel coding, or decoding.
