Study of nanostructured glass surfaces for photovoltaic applications. ScholarBank@NUS Repository. | Abstract: | The antireflective property and self-cleaning effect of a nanotextured glass surface and its applications for photovoltaic devices are studied. The multifunctional properties are characterized not only in indoor but also outdoor environments for long-term with photovoltaic devices. First, numerical studies have been conducted to confirm the effect of nanostructures on optical properties and find optimal dimensions of the nanostructures. Second, the antireflective glass surfaces are fabricated by using the anodized aluminum oxide membrane as an etching mask. We demonstrate an enhancement of optical transmission by creating randomly distributed nanoholes in a glass surface. Third, the self-cleaning effect of nanotextured superhydrophilic surfaces has been studied. Our non-coated superhydrophilic glass system is applicable particularly for practical outdoor applications, in which both the self-cleaning and antireflective effects are of concern. Subsequently, a modified anodizing method to fabricate an antireflective surface on a large area glass is shown. | URI: | http://scholarbank.nus.edu.sg/handle/10635/49142 |
