dc.description.abstract | Through the eyes of a group of randomly selected tourists visiting the historic conservation areas, we seek to explore the outcome of conservation in Singapore. Concern is with how the tourists, a key target market segment of the conservation areas, view and respond to these places. What are their attitudes, expectations and evaluation of the conservation effort? Do they find the visit an enriching experience? How much do they spend in the conservation areas? Even though the economic and social impacts of tourism on urban conservation are debated in Western cities, the subject remains relatively unexplored in Asian cities, including Singapore, where most past studies on conservation are intent on advancing how local people view the conservation efforts. | |
