Abstract: A novel approach to improve extensible markup language (XML) data quality using a knowledge-based system to clean the data was presented. The necessity of using XML parsers for simple XML structures was reviewed and their performance with parsing via regular expression matching was compared. The performance of various ways to index the data in XML document and the feasibility of replicating the data in the index for faster processing was reported.
