Abstract: In this paper, we present a novel hybrid feature for face recognition. This hybrid feature is created by combining the traditional holistic facial appearance feature with a recently proposed facial dynamics feature. We measure and compare the inherent discriminating power of this hybrid feature and the holistic facial appearance feature by the statistical separability between genuine feature distance and impostor feature distance. Our measurement indicates that the hybrid feature is more discriminative than the appearance feature. © 2009 Springer Berlin Heidelberg.
