dc.description.abstractThis thesis aims to develop new approaches to dealing with difficult identification and control problems in quantum applications. Firstly, real-valued equations are derived to facilitate the analysis and design of quantum control. Although the Schrodinger equation provides an elegant description of physical systems, it may bring unnecessary difficulties for the system analysis and control. The Lyapunov control is considered with the real-valued equations. Secondly, this thesis considers the identification and control for a class of systems with unknown parameters. A computationally efficient and easily implementable identification approach is proposed by monitoring identical systems. A further step is then taken to consider the identification based on a single system. The control problem is studied with the estimation results. Finally, a real-time estimation and control approach is developed for two-level systems with unknown initial conditions, which provides elementary support for the development of a general framework of on-line quantum identification and control.
