dc.description.abstractThis research explores the determination of building adaptation potential (BAP) and building renewal action (BRA) in Singapore's public housing sector. A structured questionnaire and personal interview are employed to collect data. The findings indicate that occupants? attitude, housing obsolescence, prospective impacts and building sustainability have an impact on the BAP. The lower bound and upper bound of the BAP are 0 and 219.55 respectively. Meanwhile, the distribution of the three renewal actions (retaining, renovating and rebuilding) shows that if a building?s BAP is below 140, `retaining? is a desirable action; if its BAP is greater than 180, `rebuilding? is a beneficial choice; if its BAP is between 140 to 180, `renovating? should be considered. The BAP model is helpful in establishing an inventory representing existing buildings? adaptation potentials and shortlisting those with greatest adaptation potentials. Furthermore, the BRA model is useful in choosing strategic renewal actions for existing buildings.
