Abstract: There has been a tremendous growth in the field of gene therapy and it is being accepted as a conventional mode of treatment for a variety of genetic disorders. But there are still a few hurdles to be crossed before it can be used to its full potential. There are few major problems which are hindering the progress of gene therapy from the bench to bedside like the safe delivery of genes, tracking the gene delivery process and controlled expression of the delivered genes. Here we report the use of fluorescent upconversion nanoparticles to overcome all the above mentioned problems faced by gene therapy.
