Ni catalyst is widely used for DRM due to its high activity and low cost. However, Ni suffers from serious deactivation due to carbon deposition. Therefore, this work is focused on the development of novel nickel-based catalysts to achieve high catalytic activity and stability for DRM. Ni-La2O3 is found to be superior in terms of activity and stability for DRM at high temperatures (> 700 °C) as compared to other commercial supports. Introduction of Sr to Ni-La2O3 not only improves the activity but also suppresses carbon formation at lower temperature (600 °C) due to the presence of surface oxygen species. Moreover, Sr-incorporated La1-xSrxNiO3 perovskite and La2-xSrxNiO4 spinel catalysts produce highly-dispersed Ni particles, resulting in better DRM performance as compared to Ni-SDL. Doping of other metals onto the Ni sites of La1-xSrxNiO3 further improves the catalytic DRM performance due to the synergetic effect of bimetallic compound, resulting in excellent activity and stability.
