dc.description.abstract | Finite impulse response (FIR) filters and filter banks have attractive properties that the stability can be guaranteed and linear-phase can be easily achieved. It is known that the filter length of a FIR filter is inversely proportional to its transition bandwidth. Thus the drawback becomes acute when designing filters with narrow transition bands. The main purpose of this study is to develop computationally efficient techniques for the design of sharp FIR filters and filter banks. The thesis consists of two parts. In the first part, an 8-band non-uniformly spaced digital FIR filter bank with low complexity and a 16-band non-uniformly spaced digital FIR filter bank with low group delay in hearing aid application were proposed respectively. In the second part, efficient synthesis structures based on frequency response masking (FRM) technique were proposed which lead to further reduction of complexity compared with other FRM structures. | |
