dc.description.abstract | In the present work, the Li- storage and cyclability of three types of mixed oxides and cobalt nitride (CoN) have been investigated as prospective anode materials for LIBs. The oxide systems are: Mo3- cluster compounds, Li(Y/Ho)Mo3O8, A2Mo3O8 (A = Mn, Co, Zn), hollandites, K2(M2Sn6)O16 (M = Co, In) and nano-composites, SnO(V2O3) x (x = 0. 0.25, 0.5) and SnO(VO)0.5. The compounds were synthesized by various methods and characterized by XRD, SEM, HR-TEM, SAED and density method. Selected compounds were also characterized by IR, Raman, chemical analysis and BET surface area techniques. The electrochemical properties were evaluated by galvanostatic cycling, cycling voltammetry and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy techniques. The mechanisms involved during Li- cycling are `conversion? reaction and `alloying-de-alloying? reaction. The ex-situ -XRD, -TEM and -SAED are carried out to support the reaction mechanisms. The key parameters which influence the Li- cycling properties are shown to be: (i) starting crystal structure of the compound, (ii) the nature and amount of counter metal ions, (iii) operating voltage range and (iii) particle size (nano- or micron- ) and morphology. | |
