AN EFFECTIVE FACILITIES MANAGEMENT PLAN FOR SCHOOLS IN SINGAPORE

Abstract

The role of facilities management in education institutions has played a significant role in providing a clean, safe and conducive place to support teaching and learning activities. It is very important for every school to practice effective facilities management in order to support the needs and demands of users. This purpose of this dissertation is to examine the role of an education institution in delivering its facilities services, and to assess and evaluate the quality of such service provided as well as convey the importance of facilities management to the various user group. Hence, an effective facilities management plan can be established. It was found that the users generally satisfied with the quality of services investigated, Eg. Estate maintenance, health and safety as well as security services, although most of them welcome improvement in some of the services. Most users also recognized the importance of facilities management in their course of work, study as well as accommodation. This study illustrates how an effective facilities management plan can be established in view of user needs and expectations based on the case study and identify key areas where improvements can be made.
