ScholarBank@NUS Repository. | Abstract: | In recent years, deployment of the Photovoltaics (PV) panels is growing rapidly as more countries and individual consumers see the benefits of renewable energy. With tariff rates raising and the maturity of the technology, individual consumers and building owners start to deploy PV systems in their buildings. With the increasing demand, it is necessary to review the local standards and frameworks to ensure the safety and health of the workers and users. There are different risks and hazards throughout the PV lifecycle from manufacturing to its disposal and recycling. Thus, having a comprehensive understanding of the hazards with measures to mitigate these potential risks has been more important than ever. As such, this paper seeks to investigate the local frameworks and identify safety guidelines and measures adopted by the Singapore solar PV industry. A literature review was conducted and the various risks and hazards in PV systems were revealed. Additionally, 29 case studies were studied and assessed the potential risks and hazards. Interviews were conducted to understand the solar industry’s perspectives on Singapore’s regulations. The perspectives and safety frameworks adopted by Singapore solar PV industry were identified.
