Abstract: As phosphine catalysis continues to progress, new methodologies involving novel substrates to create both useful and interesting molecular architectures are considered of great importance today. Over the past few decades, asymmetric phosphine catalysis has evolved to be well-known as a powerful toolkit for different organic transformations, including the development of chiral stereogenic centers and more recently chiral axes. This thesis will present some of the newly developed strategies bestowed upon by our group’s amino acid-derived phosphine catalysts in the construction of chiral centers and axes, and their corresponding applications towards the synthesis of natural products and pharmaceutical drugs.
