Title: | IMPACT OF HOMEOWNERSHIP POLICY TO ENTREPRENEURSHIP IN SINGAPORE | Authors: | TAN YUAN HAN | Keywords: | Entrepreneurship Housing Choice Homeownership Renting Multiple Regression Analysis |
Issue Date: | 2006 | Citation: | TAN YUAN HAN (2006). IMPACT OF HOMEOWNERSHIP POLICY TO ENTREPRENEURSHIP IN SINGAPORE. ScholarBank@NUS Repository. | Abstract: | Entrepreneurship has been deemed as central to the functioning of market economies especially with entrepreneurs as agents of change and growth in a market economy. But in retrospect, the entrepreneurship propensity in Singapore is considered low as compared to other countries around the world. On the other hand, the Homeownership Scheme that has been ongoing in Singapore for decades has greatly benefited the majority of the Singaporeans in terms of, not simply being a shelter, but actual physical security in the form of home ownership But this scheme which produces a high 92% of homeownership in Singapore may have hindered the people in seeking and taking on new ventures due to the higher risks perceived to be associated with entrepreneurship, in contrast to holding a stable and secure job which provides regular income. Secondary data from GEM report will be highlighted to provide a general picture for the readers to have a more comprehensive understanding of the level of entrepreneurship propensity in Singapore. The purpose of this research is to establish the relationship between entrepreneurship and the impact of homeownership policy, and to outline the possibility of renting as an alternative housing option to enhance the level of entrepreneurship. The results of a multiple regression analysis conducted by this study will be presented to prove the negative linear relationship of Homeownership towards Entrepreneurship. Lastly, implications on homeownership and the possibility of renting will be discussed to provide further in-sights and highlight the significance of this study in its application to the Singapore context. | URI: | https://scholarbank.nus.edu.sg/handle/10635/234360 |
