CRISIS MANAGEMENT FOR PRIVATE CONDOMINIUMS IN SINGAPORE

Abstract

Crisis management plays an essential part as one of the core services provided by property management firms for private condominium in Singapore. This is due to the fact that a crisis usually catches people off-guard and dire consequences often follow suit especially in view of the recent global trend and our close call with them such as SARS since year 2000 and terrorism attacks which become more frequent and intense after World War II (like the 9/11 attack and 2002 Bali bombing). As such, standard operating procedure (SOP) and preventive measures have been laid down for the managing agents to follow in the event of crises. This study is to examine the level of preparation (in terms of the level of skills, resources) and the readiness (the level of confidence and the mindset) of handling crisis occurring in private condominiums among the managing agents and the condominium residents. Three surveys conducted were conducted, one with the professionals through experts' interview, one with the residents of private condominiums and another with the council members from management corporations through questionnaire. Lastly, this study ends with a summary of findings to improve the capability of managing agents in handling crises.
