With the advent of new construction technologies, many old construction methods are no longer efficient in carrying out modern day work. Therefore, with so many upgrading projects coming along to improve the living condition, it is necessary to keep updated on the latest technology so as to better and effectively carry out any works skillfully on a shorter time basis. This study seeks to examine the Housing and Development Board (HDB) residents' perception towards the Lift Upgrading Programme (LUP) as well as to identify the factors that influence their decisions in supporting the LUP. Data were collected through field survey and interviewing residents face to face. Chi-square (x2) test, descriptive statistics and Friedman test were deployed for data analysis. Survey results showed that the respondents' ages, education level, income level as well as their ethnic group were key factors that affected their decisions to support the LUP. Other factors such as the lift design itself, the safety and security level were also analysed. The significance of this study is that HDB should create and promote public awareness of the LUP by organising exhibitions and models for the residents. They should also be providing different affordable LUP packages and financial options for residents.
