Abstract: With a large number of Asian expatriates coming to Singapore, there is a need to understand and take note of their housing preferences and selection criteria. This knowledge can be used to facilitate future governmental policies to encourage and attract more foreign talents here. Being different from the locals in Singapore, a study of their culture, social and economic needs can help private developers to cater housing to these needs in this high potential housing market. There are altogether 188 respondents in the survey sample. From a list of 20 preference variables with respect to the housing preferences in their stay in Singapore, the respondents were required to rate the level of importance of each variables in a 5-point Likert-scale response. Upon that, the survey results were applied to a Principal Component Factor reduction and an eventual set of 6 factor clusters were being identified. These 6 factor clusters are namely: design/aesthetics factor, physical/social factor, location/cost factor, facility factor, comfort factor and convenience factor. Employing the factor scores generated from the Principal Components Analysis, a study of how the socio-economic characteristics of the Asian expatriates will be influenced by the factor scores is being conducted. Applying the single-factor ANOVA test with regards to 6 socio-economic variables attained from the survey, the results are then being interpreted.
