|Title:||QUALITY OF LIFE OF EXPATRIATES IN SINGAPORE||Authors:||NG SOH FANG||Issue Date:||2005||Citation:||NG SOH FANG (2005). QUALITY OF LIFE OF EXPATRIATES IN SINGAPORE. ScholarBank@NUS Repository.||Abstract:||Globalisation has brought about unprecedented changes in all economies and has shaped quantitative and qualitative aspects of life. It heightened awareness of quality of life which encompasses two aspects; namely objective and subjective dimensions. In the past, quality of life focused largely on objective measures which beyond a certain level of a developed economy, would not be truly reflective of quality of life. Hence, the subjective aspect is critical in passing a more relevant assessment of quality of life in such circumstances by operationalising it into various aspects. As such, in light of the competitiveness of the global economy these days, Singapore has to find ways to retain expatriates, who have contributed immensely to her economy. By constantly addressing their concerns with regards to the various aspects of quality of life, it would make Singapore a more liveable place for expatriates. This study built on a similar study conducted 5 years ago to assess the quality of life of expatriates and to identify new indicators. It was found that expatriates' perceptions on the importance and satisfaction remained largely unchanged and two new attributes; political environment and self-development, were added but was found only to have only moderate impact on expatriates. However, changes in the ranking between the top and bottom indicators were observed. By following up on such trends, it reflects Singapore's sensitivity towards expatriates' needs and thus allow for adoption of appropriate strategies in future.||URI:||https://scholarbank.nus.edu.sg/handle/10635/230808|
