dc.description.abstract | The present study seeks to explore the influences of personality traits and daily situations on daily experiential avoidance (EA). We recruited 325 college students to complete one initial trait questionnaire and seven daily assessments administered every two days, over 14 days. Participants’ personality traits based on the DSM-5 Alternative Model of Personality Disorder (AMPD) were examined using the PID-5-BF measure. Daily situational contexts were assessed using a recent taxonomy combining the DIAMONDS and CAPTIONS measures while daily EA was measured by adapting the Brief Experiential Avoidance Questionnaire (BEAQ). Multilevel analyses were conducted to examine the influences of personality traits and daily situations on EA. The study’s results indicated that the AMPD traits of negative affectivity (NA), psychoticism (PSY), and detachment (DET) were positively associated with daily EA. Adverse situations were positively linked to daily EA while positive situations were negatively linked to daily EA. Contrary to our amplification hypothesis from the interactions between personality and situations, we found personality traits and daily situations demonstrating largely independent influences on daily EA. Findings from the present study hope to advance the present understanding of the role of personality and situational factors in influencing EA. | |
