This dissertation aims to look into the demand and acceptance of Self-Storage services by the commercial sector in Singapore. A number of attributes will be looked into, and it is hoped that at the end of this research, we can have a better understanding of the demand for and acceptance of the infant Self-Storage industry in Singapore. Self-storage is an industry that is already very well-established in other countries, particular in the United States. The concept was introduced to Singapore in the later part of year 2002. Occupancy rates have been good, but these say little about the overall demand for the service in Singapore. This dissertation concentrates on the demand by the commercial firms. Firms may have huge amounts of items that require storage. In this age of technology and paper-less society, many still, however, keep hardcopies for fear of a virus attack, or have bulky items to store. Such items can range from exhibition stands to corporate gifts. It is noted too, that demand comes with awareness and acceptance. Therefore, other than investigating the factors that will affect the demand, this dissertation looks into awareness of the service in Singapore, and the acceptance of the much talked-about "third generation" self-storage facilities.
