dc.description.abstract | With continual development in Singapore, there is a need to conserve greenery in the urban landscape. Urban greenery has proven to be beneficial to our environment by mitigating the impact of Urban Heat Island effect and climate change. Hence, urban planners are incorporating greenery to developments to achieve temperature reduction and cooling. In this research study, the different plant functional traits will be studied to determine the impact of the traits on cooling potential among different plant species. Plant functional traits include shrub albedo, Leaf Area Index, Evapotranspiration ratio and more. A correlation analysis will also be conducted to evaluate the impact of solar radiation on Evapotranspiration ratio among different plant species. As the landscaping industry today is slow in adopting Building Information Modelling (BIM), this study will also be proposing a framework and workflow to integrate BIM into landscape design with the creation of a BIM vegetation library. The framework and workflow aim to improve the efficiency of the plant selection process and enable landscape designers to use the platform to compute the Green Plot Ratio of developments easily and more accurately. This will also promote further integration with the rest of the Architecture, Engineering and Construction industry. As such, the overall productivity of the landscaping design industry will be increased with the adoption of BIM and landscape designers will be able to leverage on the platform to select the most suitable plants to further enhance the cooling potential of their designs. | |
