Abstract: A major part of every human's life is spent in buildings, whether for work or leisure. This makes thermal comfort an integral component to look into. In order for thermal comfort to be achieved, we will require large amounts of energy to be channeled into cooling or heating within the building. Since the world has been moving towards energy reductions due to high amounts of carbon emissions and global warming, we have to ensure that the building is one that can provide optimal thermal comfort naturally. The amount of insulation that can be provided by the building envelope plays a big part in achieving optimal thermal comfort and reducing energy internally within the building. Insulation of the building envelope is most effective when the right insulation materials are put together in the walls and roof of the building. Thus, this study focuses on analysing the impact of different types of insulation in basic buildings. Data containing properties of insulation of rooms with different types of insulation materials were collected through an experiment carried out in Bangalore, India. The paper also contains analysis of the data and streamlining of effective insulation before reaching a conclusion. Although there are some limitations to the study due to certain constraints, efforts are put in to draw attention to the importance and power of insulation.
