Abstract: With the rising global costs in energy and the erupting oil crisis that threatens operations everywhere, the world has finally started to pay attention to the need for energy efficient practices and technologies. Singapore has embarked on a mission for the building industry in Singapore to achieve 80% Green Mark Certification for all buildings by 2030. This has created a slew of Green Mark certified buildings in Singapore as building owners are attracted to the incentives and cost savings that comes with an energy efficient building. One of the Green Mark Platinum Award winners is the Khoo Teck Puat Hospital (KTPH) located in Yishun. The hospital is approximately 40% more energy efficient than a hospital of reference standard. According to the BCA green mark final presentation done by KTPH, based on the design energy calculations, the hospitak is 35.9% more efficient over reference standard. As mentioned earlier, KTPH is the proud recipient of the BCA Green Mark Platinum Award. The hospitak enjoys an estimated energy savings of 20,408,947kWh/yr and water savings of 64,349.51m3/yr. Even as KTPH enjoys a 40% energy savings as compared to other hospitals in Singapore, there is certainly room for improvement as striving for energy efficiency is a continuous process. As mentioned earlier, hospitals operate round the clock and have large demands for energy therefore, understandably they have a large potential for energy savings especially as new and innovative technologies become available.
