dc.description.abstract | With the aggravating effects of global warming, there has been a shift of practice amongst people towards tourism. Increasingly, eco-friendliness is taking a more important role in the development of tourism hubs resulting in the inclining eco-resort boom in Indonesia. Therefore there is a need to search for the most sustainable material for an eco-conscious resort. “Grass” referring to bamboo for structure together with “Alang Alang“ for thatched roof become the center of topic in the dissertation. Although grass architecture may not be the only choice for eco-resort, the study shown that it is the most economical and environmental friendly material. Apart from understanding the properties and usage of bamboo, this paper examine on a case study of eco-resort in Bali. And 5 Element Eco-Resort will be used as platform to understand the design intention and feasibility of grass architecture. It demonstrate an architecture that is both ethic and aesthetic and further prove the viability of light weight structure to be attainable without the use of steel, yet manageable with minimum machinery. The crafting of detailing and tectonic shown the marriage of advancing technology and innovative ideas of designer evolutes from the traditional building method. The investigation concludes with an argument on how successful does “Grass” makes the ideal building material for making the architecture of eco-resort in Bali. | |
