Issue Date: | 8-Nov-2013 | Citation: | TOH KOK WAH JONATHAN (2013-11-08). TOOLS OF DELINEATED CONTROL: THE CONVEYANCE TECHNIQUES OF ARCHITECTURAL INFORMATION AND ITS EFFECTS ON THE ARCHITECT. ScholarBank@NUS Repository. | Abstract: | Historic Precedents suggest that a transition in representational tools results in changes for the architectural profession and the architects within it. Building from precedent, the change from two-dimensional digital drafting, e.g. AutoCAD – to Building Information Modeling will change the transmittance of architectural information and the architectʼs technical role, yet again. However, these propositions have been based solely on theoretical findings. Therefore, this dissertation will investigate the implications of BIM on the architectʼs role and level of control over design and construction processes. The findings from this query are eminent within the Singaporeʼs construction industry, especially with the on-going BIM e-submission mandate by the local building authority. The architectʼs capacity to do work will increase. However, whether the proposed changes will occur in practice application is dependent on other intervening factors, e.g. contextual, legal and technical issues. The architectʼs control, as a result of the changes in role, can be enhanced and/or retracted depending on the aforementioned factors as well. | URI: | https://scholarbank.nus.edu.sg/handle/10635/223884 |
