Abstract: In the recent years, sustainable construction came into the spotlight due to global warming and the increased awareness of the impacts that the built environment has on the environment. The building and construction authority of Singapore (BCA) have introduced various schemes and incentives to promote sustainability in the construction industry since 2005. This had led to a rise in the number of green building projects over the years. Having a competent and effective project manager is important as studies have shown that project managers have a direct influence over the success of a project. Hence, with the growing number of green projects, there is a urgent need to understand the leadership needs of this new project type. Past studies conducted have identified the competency and skills that are required of the project managers in green construction projects. However, little has been done on the leadership styles of project managers managing in green projects. Thus, this research study is aimed at looking into the leadership styles adopted for green projects. Several research methods were employed in this study to obtain conclusive and factual data. These research methods included a comprehensive literature review, survey questionnaire and interviews. Information obtained from these sources has suggested that the leadership styles which project managers in green projects adopt are similar to that of conventional projects. Project managers were found to be more job-oriented, directive and democratic in nature. More in-depth and detailed findings can be found in the research report.
