dc.description.abstract | In construction projects, more often than not, developers and contractors place much emphasis on the management of various components such as time, cost and human resource. This can be attributed to the financial benefits that are associated with the appropriate management of the above. However, it is also crucial that we do not forsake the well-being of our environment during the pursuit of the various material gains derivable from the construction projects. Proper management of construction waste not only can do much for the environment and its sustainability, but also bring about other benefits to construction firms. However, this is one aspect in which many construction firms have failed to recognize. Qualitative methods of research and extensive review of relevant literature were adopted for this research. Case studies and electronic interviews were also carried out with two local construction firms in order to allow for the testing the hypothesis. The information gathered from literature reviews and findings from the case studies have revealed that there were indeed benefits that both the environment and firms could gain through management of construction waste. The study also identified the 3 Rs (Reduce, reuse and recycle) as ways in which waste management can be implemented. | |
