Quantity Surveyors (QS) play essential roles in the construction industry. Some studies have shown that many of these professionals experience low job satisfaction and there is a high attrition rate, factors contributing to job satisfaction levels of QS are explored. The aim of this study is to examine retention and attrition of QS in Singapore. The research method is based on survey, and data collected using a structured questionnaire with the aim of ascertaining satisfaction levels and degree of importance of each of the 23 job-related independent variables identified through the literature review as having the potential to contribute to job satisfaction. The data, which was collected via electronic mail, was analysed using SPSS software. Pearson’s Correlation analysis and Paired Sample T-test revealed 6 recurrent job-related variables that is significant in influencing the job satisfaction of QS. The factors are (1) monetary benefits; (2) non-monetary benefits; (3) fit between personality and job; (4) chances of promotion; (5) sense of accomplishment; and (6) ethics and integrity of the company. Based on a deeper exploration of these factors and their influence on job satisfaction levels, recommendations have been made with respect to these factors so as to increase the job satisfaction levels of QS.
