Abstract: Observations made from the younger years of Singapore in its 20th century identifies an epochal change in Singapore’s perception towards ‘Creative Society’, ranging from changes found in policy, attitude, academic and even architecture. Youths were seen as one of the key motors of this phrase that leads to one interesting concoction: Scape, set up for youths as a creative incubator to show case their talents and creativity. Despite countless celebrations of Scape as a place for youth to display their creativity, with beliefs from the public of its authenticity, Scape seems to be concocted out of trajectory phenomenon traced from past events and interviews that may prove a deeper connection. As Scape was a creation from ‘Creative Society’, it has equally opens up to a risk-taking culture that would require unpredictability to challenge the norm. Yet, inaugurated by the government, a contestation is brewed as Scape now faces the opponent, a risk adverse authority. This contestation of risk taking and risk adverse will seek to draw values from Beck’s Risk Society Theory as the lenses of investigation in Scape. Risk in this place, is neither immaterial nor destructive, yet it is the very essence that materialized into destruction. As such, society is founded and administrated by the ambiguity of risk such that strategies were implemented to prevent the worst, yet at the same time, requiring rooms for the growth of desirable risk for the Creativity, and one such way would be through the use of architecture. Taking from this perspective, the inception, architectural attributes and internal spaces of Scape will be amalgamated with the idea of Risk as the driving vehicles for this investigation and to search for the factuality of Scape in its existence. A small hint revealed, that Scape, under the influence of risk, just merely expanded its allowance for Creativity for the fear of risk is greater than anything.
