dc.description.abstract | This dissertation is to define farther the concept of recycling materials from demolition waste or any other sources of waste into mainly construction materials. In order for the concept to be understood, discussion and reviews on current construction materials will be addressed. Issues of the types of different materials found from construction demolition will be explained in much more specific detail. This will guide readers to recognize which materials are actually feasible to be applied in Singapore and to comprehend the needs for construction industry to have advanced building materials as a whole. Apart from that, readers will also gain knowledge on international studies of recycle materials, other than common concrete and steel that has actually been implemented to be a significant building material. In which it will enhanced this dissertation further into pushing one’s mind to think of the possibilities to create new and unique advanced construction materials in Singapore’s research and development area. The international studies will be based on cases within Asia, namely Malaysia as its country conditions are similar to Singapore, and beyond Asia, namely Netherlands as it is one of the country which is greatly promoting recyclability and moving towards sustainability. These studies will be critically analysed based on its planning factors, design considerations, characteristics of the recycled material, identifying the properties, and lastly commenting on its application in Singapore construction industry. As Singapore is limited with resources, these research studies may act as an eye-opener and add as a value-add towards the industry. | |
