dc.description.abstract | The increased demand on road usage has led to the increase in scheduling of nighttime work in order to alleviate the traffic congestion during daytime. With the implementation of nighttime road work, the traffic congestion has significantly reduced. However, there are several drawbacks of conducting road works at night. The main drawbacks are insufficient lighting and noise level limit. On top of that, it also evokes the discernment of lower productivity rate, lower work quality and higher safety issues. The purpose of the study is to evaluate the difference between daytime and nighttime road construction with respect to three areas namely productivity rate, work quality and safety issues. Both qualitative and quantitative research is done to address the three identified areas in nighttime road construction. Activities which negatively impact nighttime road construction are highlighted as well. Generally, there are differences between daytime and nighttime road construction. However, it is more significant in productivity rate and safety issues. Lower productivity rate has been experienced when road work is conducted at night. Even though there has been a difference in daytime and nighttime safety issues, there are equal numbers of feedback that more or less safety issues have been experienced. On the other hand, work quality, by and large, remains the same regardless of whether road works are conducted in the day or at night. Last but not least, recommendations to improve nighttime road construction are provided. These recommendations aim to help reap the most benefits from conducting nighttime road construction. | |
