dc.description.abstract | This thesis seeks to extend the existing park connectors into a network that connects green patches on the island into one gigantic park, so to transform the urbanscape from one dominated by cars, to one promotes walkability, cyclability and biodiversity. The new park connector network is an alternative network system that complements the existing transportation system. From existing park connector network, it grows into an extensive network in stages based on the different level of urban nodes that is identified .One can start from first degree of network, then second degree, eventually to third degree and arrives to any point of the city. In doing this, some of this park will transform the way the residents use the land. It creates new opportunities for architectural land and slow paced programs in the fast paced world. The thesis illustrates how this can work in one area, ie Toa payoh , by showing different types of conditions and scenario-based architecture. The park connector network taps into existing greenland, creates new environment, typology of the building and alternative lifestyle to the residents. The thesis hopes that this park connector network will transform the whole island with new urban form and its intricate woven urban network that is both high-performing and green. | |
