Abstract: Singapore is experiencing a shift in demographic in the very near future. Singapore is facing an ageing population as statistics show that the median age of Singapore citizens is increasing each year. Reports have listed Singapore as one the countries suffering a rapid rate of ageing. Furthermore about 1 million baby boomers, born between 1947 and 1964, are moving into their golden years (65 years old and above). Singapore has experienced drastically drop in the ratio of elderly citizen to citizen in the working age. This will not only increase the need for healthcare for the elderly but also for the working class whom will face added stress to provide for the older population. By 2030, there will only be 2.1 working-age citizens for each citizen aged 65 and above. What should we do to prepare for the ageing population in our near future?
