Abstract: “Teenagers have no obvious right to spaces of their own. They often have nowhere else to go except outdoor public places, where they often come into conflict with other groups.” -Mats Lieberg Public spaces are rarely designed with youth in mind, coupled with the increasing trend of mass-privatisation of public spaces, youth of today seem to have lesser outlets to hang-out and carry out their interests. For a long time, the situation in Singapore has been similar to other developed countries. In 2006, *SCAPE, a non-profit organisation, was conceptualised in the heart of the city (Orchard Road). With its mission set to support the talent and development of the youth, *SCAPE poses as a possibly new and interesting typology of youth space, not just in Singapore, but also in the world. By studying the past youth spaces of Singapore, and analysing the existing *SCAPE as case study, this paper aims to provide a deeper understanding to the planning and design components required to create a successful space for the youth, in hope of better informing future designs of youth spaces.
