dc.description.abstract | Scarcity of resources is always a concerns for local context, being one of the world most land and water-constrained country, where two most important resources on which food production relies on, are adversely affecting local food production and making it overly depending on its, up to 90%, of food imports. As a result of this over reliance on food sources from overseas countries, this has inevitably exerting pressure on food security as well as increasing carbon footprint due to the food imports. A call for a novel approach of innovative forms of green urban architecture is crucially necessary in order to alleviate food security and carbon footprint issues. This paper aims to examine the potential of integration of Aquaponics into public housing as a sustainable solution by combining food production into residential buildings in urban setting. This report concludes that, up to 30% of the public housing building façade and approximately 50% to 70% of the ground floor void deck area, can be used for vertical farming and aquaculture purpose respectively, with high acceptability from public perspective. | |
