This study report presents a comparative analysis of the management of visitor pressure in four coastal parks in Singapore (Chek Jawa Wetlands, Labrador Nature Reserve, Pasir Ris Mangrove Swamp and Sungei Buloh Nature Reserve), based on a pre-identified set of ecological, physical and social indicators. The level of visitor pressure and impact based on these indicators are assessed from site observations and interviews with officers from the National Parks Board, Singapore (NParks). The comparative analysis is then presented using a matrix model, from which the four coastal parks are ranked in terms of their level of visitor pressure and impact. The management strategies for each coastal park to prevent and mitigate visitor impacts are then discussed. The study of these management strategies - a combination of general, park-wide strategies as well as park specific strategies - is based largely on the interviews with the NParks officers. An assessment of the effectiveness of these strategies across the four coastal parks is then presented. Recommendations on additional prevention and mitigation management strategies are made to complement NParks' existing strategies. These are based on alternative approaches to better coastal park management from reviewed literature, and are recommended to bring about a better balance between preservation of the natural habitats of the coastal parks and enhancement of visitor's experience, as well as ensuring the sustainability of the ecological and biodiversity richness in these coastal parks for the benefit of future generations.
