Facilities Management (FM) has begun to gain its popularity due to the worldwide trend. It is commonly adopted in non-core services to consultants and suppliers. Many local companies (including the Ministries and Statutory Boards) are outsourcing their facilities functions to the specialist service provider. By doing so, they could save the operating cost, manpower cost as well as other influencing factors which this study will discuss. This study also aims to discuss the outsourcing type, for example the Managing Agent and Managing Contractor. In addition, the decision making for awarding the contract (either Managing Agent or Managing Contractor) will also be analysed and discussed with the results of the survey. Lastly, a case study of an actual organisation carrying out the outsourced facilities management will be discussed.
