ScholarBank@NUS Repository. | Abstract: | Global warming is a constant struggle and becomes of increasing concern over the years. Research is constantly being done with technologies evolving to figure new methods in saving the Earth. The ability of biochar in absorbing carbon dioxide is not a new concept. Biochar creates a carbon negative environment which will be able to absorb carbon dioxide. Removing carbon dioxide in the atmosphere essentially removes the harmful greenhouse gas and hence reducing the impacts of global warming. This research hopes to incorporate biochar into a building to produce a building – integrated carbon sequestration system. By doing so, this building becomes are carbon sink which will in turn remove a lot more carbon dioxide residing in the atmosphere. This would thus contribute to the sustainable factor and becoming a bioenergy system (Brewer, 2012). This research aims to enhance biochar’s capacity in carbon dioxide absorption through the addition of gelatin powder. The hypothesis aims to raise biochar’s potential as a carbon absorbent.
