Abstract: Government policies and the Paris Agreement have exerted pressure on the energy industry. Recent research on the energy industry has shown the adoption of natural gas, renewable energy, and associated technologies, as a transition into new energy. The oil and gas industry has been facing criticisms of unsustainability, given its large stakes and investments in oil. This study will build on existing literature and analyses on leading oil and gas companies’ business models to present examples of transition for other energy companies. It shows the benefits of incorporating lowcarbon and renewable energy to build on a balanced portfolio of renewable and nonrenewable assets. Such a strategy can support a company’s sustainability, relevance, and eventually, profits. Global warming can also be reduced with cleaner energy. Nations and the global economy will reap this benefit as well, as they will be less dependent on oil prices and market forces.
