Abstract: Construction 3D printing will soon be the future of the built industry as more people starts to see the benefits of 3D concrete printing. This dissertation will focus on the mechanical enhancement that mortar-polymer laminate composite can provide through testing the effectiveness of the polymer reinforcement. The displacement controlled compression test and 2D Digital Image Correlation (DIC) analysis will be carried out to test the effectiveness of the polymer reinforcement in 3 different types of mortar-polymer laminate composite. From this research, the results showed that the addition of the polymer reinforcement in the 3 different types of mortar matrix ‘M’, ‘M_2BC’ and ‘M_15FA’, led to a decrease in the overall peak stress of the composite. However, the overall ductility of the composites increased with the presence of the polymer reinforcement. Hence, the polymer reinforcement is effective in providing mortar-polymer laminate composite with mechanical enhancement. However, it is important to note that the conclusions made are based on the results collected in this research and there could be other factors that cause mortar-polymer to provide mechanical enhancement that were not investigated for this research.
