dc.description.abstract | Singapore’s hot and humid climate has made the use of air-conditioning crucial in maintaining thermal comfort in the indoor environment. Yet, usually high amount of money are spent on air-conditioning bills, which could add up to a significant sum in the long run. However, most strategies to reduce energy consumption could deteriorate indoor air quality, which could affect one’s productivity and health. In view of the challenges mentioned, a potential solution would be the implementation of Single Coil Twin Fan (SCTF) air- conditioning system. This is a new air-conditioning system that works based on ventilation on demand concept. This study examines the application of SCTF on the different air distribution methods such as Personalised Ventilation System, Displacement Ventilation System and underfloor Air Distribution System. This study is conducted with reference to the 3rd storey of the Building and Construction Authority’s Zero Energy Building. Extensive data collection through subjective and objective means have been carried out to achieve better understanding of the impact of SCTF system on the indoor air quality, thermal comfort and energy consumption of ZEB. The results obtained were supportive of the SCTF system as being able to provide good IAQ for occupants as well as energy savings. Limitations of the study are discussed with proposed recommendations to help further enhance indoor air quality and thermal comfort to occupants in the studied space. | |
