A natural monopoly in the public water supply system adds to limited competition. Along with a growing population, the water supply sector has to ensure sustainability of existing and new services. High quality is always first priority of the effluent water. Global warming and need for reduced CO2 emissions puts demand on wastewater treatment plants to improve and develop more energy efficient technologies, and still remain high water quality. Therefore, due to increased concerns on energy efficiency, a Comprehensive Energy Audit was conducted on a local wastewater treatment plant, which is alike to a commercial building. The objective of this comprehensive energy audit is to formulate ways and practices to implement energy saving measures and to reduce carbon foot print of Kranji Water Reclamation Plant (KWRP). The scope of the Comprehensive Energy Audit is to carry out gap analysis, to break down and benchmark major energy consuming equipments, recommend and implement energy conservation measures only for lighting, air-conditioning and ventilation system. However, process equipments are not covered in this report. This thesis is a study between energy consumption, energy conversation measures and possible energy saving devices of a commercial building. Data collected from the energy audit carried out has been evaluated and compared. The potential of energy savings and feasibility of the some new tools are also discussed. The results from the energy audit showed that there are a few areas which are worth implementing energy saving measures. Hence, potential for energy savings in Kranji Water Reclamation Plant is rather high.
