Abstract: The concept of Work-Life Balance has generated substantial amount of interest in the academic, research field and published press. Unfortunately till date, Work-Life Balance is still an undeveloped and fragmented theory that has not been keeping pace with the incrementing interest. This dissertation seeks to operationalize the concept of Work-Life Balance which can be applied across different areas of study. A conceptual framework was designed in this study to provide a linking mechanism towards the explanation of Work-Life Balance. Furthermore, this research also introduces a new concept called Coping Strategies that has not been explored substantially by past researchers and has the potential to contribute significantly to the study of Work-Life Balance. The area of study for this dissertation is limited to Singapore and South Korean Generation Y working in the construction industry. Questionnaire surveys were conducted on the targeted respondents and the data collected was analyzed using SPSS and SmartPLS 3.0 software. SPSS software was selected to analyze the descriptive statistics where mean score between Singapore and South Korea results were compared and evaluated. SmartPLS 3.0 software was adopted to analyze the inferential statistics where all the relationships between indicators (hypotheses) in the conceptual framework were analyzed simultaneously. Interviews were conducted to gather the interviewees’ view and feedback on the findings of the inferential statistical analysis. The result of the analysis has changed the perspective in targeting individual’s Work-Life Balance. The findings concluded that high Work-Life Enrichment is significant in explaining Work-Life Balance be it indirect (Singapore result) or direct (South Korea result) relationship. Coping Strategies, another indicator that is directly associated with Work-Life Balance was seen as the mediator between Work-Life Enrichment and Work-Life Balance relationship for the Singapore results. Based on the results given, it can be seen that Singaporean and South Korean Gen Y employees working in the construction industry have different paths in achieving Work-Life Balance. This signifies that there is no one size fits all approach in assessing Work-Life Balance and the result of Work-Life Balance should not be generalized or applied across different nations.
