The demand for more compact living has become an emerging trend in Singapore in recent years. The thesis started out as a challenge to create a new typology of compact living in Singapore, which provides quality living spaces and promotes social interactivity among the residents. Prefabricated plug-in pods are incorporated in the thesis as a technical challenge and solution in providing flexibility in living spaces which also allows for renewability. Studies are made on the topic of plug-in pods following which strategies are formulated and applied in the design.
