Abstract: The concept of circular economy has grown more prominent over the last few decades. This is more apparent in a small and rapid urbanization country like Singapore, where land scarcity is a major concern. Other than the popular topic of plastic, glass is something that requires focus as well. This study looks into the complexity of recovering high recycling rate of glass waste from waste stream, and the difficulty in maintaining its suitability for reuse in glass bottle manufacturing industry and/or other applications. This paper also explores the current glass waste management system of Hong Kong, China, Stockholm, and Australia, so as to find ways to increase the recycling rate of glass in Singapore and explore potential secondary market for recycled glass usage. Key recommendations and relevant strategies are made towards the end of the paper based on studies done in the abovementioned countries.
