Building Information Modelling (BIM) in Facilities Management (FM) is increasingly gaining interest in research. There is potential in BIM implementation in FM to revolutionize the FM process and to leverage on the benefits of BIM beyond the Design and Construction stage and into the Operations & Maintenance (O&M) stage of the building lifecycle. Despite so, there is a lack of implementation in Singapore's FM industry due to the challenges of implementing BIM in FM. This paper focus on the study of BIM in FM and to understand challenges that is deterring usage BIM in FM. It is found that maintenance of the BIM model in the O&M stage of the building lifecycle is one of the largest barrier as to why there is low adoption of BIM in FM. Maintenance of a BIM model throughout the O&M stage is necessary and important to ensure the viability and continuity of the use of BIM in FM. As such, this is an issue that has to be overcome. A further study on maintenance of a BIM model revealed the level of complexity and challenges in maintenance of a BIM model. As such, the paper seeks to tackle the issues of maintenance of a BIM model and thus surmount one of the largest barrier standing in the way of implementing BIM in FM. This shall help in ensuring a long term implementation of BIM in FM.
