Abstract: Reader would find more components of qualitative rather than quantitative. Reason being the study focuses on philosophical value of a place through an intuitive manner. The main extract of this dissertation consist of place studies and insight on placemaking strategy, with a highlight on the High Line Park, New York city. Following the studies, investigations was carried out to explore the potential of KTMB railway line for placemaking, as a compelling case for future development. Subsequently, a phenomenological framework was adopted in analyzing its intangible merits. By remodelling an assessment pioneered by National Parks Board (based on Yi-Fu Tuan's theory of Topophilia) for placemaking strategy, a randomized survey was conducted on thirty participants in February 2011. The end result signify a phenomenological realm of KTMB railway line as a genuine, distinctive place that the niche itself provides. It further projects an aura of poignant, emotionally charged place that in part define Singapore's soul. The study has paved a novel stratum, as a basis for future intervention that hopes to bring forth an inclusive development for KTMB railway line.
